BMW Motorrad F450 GS launched, 48 hp, auto clutch

BMW Motorrad F450 GS: Finally Here with Auto Clutch!

Okay, geng! Remember that BMW Motorrad F450 GS concept teased last year? Well, it's officially launched at EICMA in Italy! This baby's built for adventure, both on the road and off, and it's packing some serious tech.

BMW is offering the F450 GS in four versions: Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and the top-spec Trophy. Each one aims to deliver that signature BMW balance of agility and stability. Let's dive in!

The Coolest Feature: Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)

The F450 GS has a new feature, especially for the Trophy variant and as an option for the others: The BMW Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). Think of it as a semi-automatic clutch! No more manual clutch lever needed, especially when starting, changing gears, or during tough off-road sections. The clutch engages based on engine speed. Sounds helpful for our Malaysian traffic jams, right?

Engine and Performance

Powering this adventure machine is a brand-new 420cc parallel-twin engine pumping out 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. It has a crankshaft with crankpins offset by 135 degrees and a balance shaft, which BMW says keeps vibrations to a minimum. Nice!

Riding Modes and Electronics

You've got three standard riding modes to choose from: Rain, Road, and Enduro. If you opt for the Exclusive or Trophy models, you'll also get Enduro Pro mode. The F450 GS also features ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and engine drag torque control (MSR).

Suspension and Brakes

The bike uses KYB upside-down forks (43 mm inner tube diameter), adjustable for rebound and compression, as well as KYB monoshock at the rear that can be adjusted for preload and rebound. Suspension travel is 180 mm at both ends.

Braking is handled by Brembo, featuring a single 310 mm disc with a four-piston caliper up front, and a 240 mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. ABS Pro comes standard.

Other Cool Bits

  • It comes with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Spoked wheels are available as an option.
  • Standard seat height is 845 mm, with lower (830 mm) and rally (865 mm) seats available.
  • 6.5-inch TFT-LCD screen displays all your vital riding info.
  • LED headlight features an "X" daytime running light.
