Johor Checkpoints: Jem Teruk! Enhanced SOPs at Motorcycle Lanes Cause Congestion

Adoi, riders! Been stuck in traffic at the Johor checkpoints lately? You're not alone. Seems like the 'jem teruk' at both BSI (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) and KSAB (Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar) is due to enhanced SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) at the motorcycle lanes.

According to Johor exco man, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, these stricter procedures were implemented following cases of mat motor managing to 'escape' without proper passport checks. Ish, ish, ish. Macam mana boleh jadi?

“The congestion mainly involves those using manual counters, as officers need to physically inspect each passport. Each check makan masa more than 30 seconds, especially when they have to handle multiple passports at once,” he said.

Why the Ketatkan SOPs?

Apparently, this 'ketatkan' SOPs came after enforcement action by AKPS (Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency). They caught some fellas exiting the country without showing their passports! Salah tu, geng!

“The congestion is unavoidable for now. Enforcement officers need to prevent further cases of motorcyclists bypassing immigration checks,” emphasized Mohamad Fazli.

On Nov 14, AKPS mentioned they detained 26 Malaysians for exiting via the BSI motorcycle lane without passports. They were charged under Section 2(2) of the Passport Act 1960. Some were fined, others got warnings. Jangan main-main, guys!

AKPS reminds all motorcyclists to follow instructions at manual and automated lanes. Make sure you report to an immigration officer when entering or leaving Malaysia. No shortcut ya!

Future Outlook

While there is no easy fix currently, the Johor state government is looking into long-term solutions and welcomes suggestions from all parties to ease congestion at the checkpoints for daily commuters and other users.
