Melaka cops dismantle ‘Harraz Gang’, ending crime spree
Harraz Gang Dismantled! Melaka Police Bust Notorious Kapcai Thieves
Good news for all kapcai riders and vehicle owners in Melaka! The Melaka police have successfully taken down the infamous “Harraz Gang,” a highly organised crime syndicate that has been plaguing the Melaka Tengah district with a string of vehicle thefts, break-ins, and robberies since the start of this year. Ini memang lega, geng!
Swift Action Nabs Four Suspects
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit announced that four men, aged between 24 and 32, were nabbed in Permatang Pasir, Alai, on March 19. This quick arrest happened less than 24 hours after a report of a motorcycle theft was lodged. Talk about fast action from our PDRM!
“Active since January, the group has been involved in at least 12 criminal cases involving the theft of motorcycles and vans as well as break-ins and robberies in Kandang, Bemban, Banda Hilir and Tanjung Minyak.”
— Christopher Patit, Melaka Tengah Police Chief
Targeting Popular Malaysian Bikes
These unscrupulous thieves weren't just targeting any vehicles; they specifically went for iconic Malaysian favourites. They stole beloved Yamaha 125ZR and Honda EX5 motorcycles, models deeply ingrained in our riding culture. Once stolen, these bikes were quickly disassembled and sold for parts to third parties, making recovery a nightmare for their rightful owners. We all know how precious these rides are to their owners!
Criminal Background and Drug Abuse
Patit revealed that all four arrested men were unemployed and had only been released from prison last October. Their criminal records are extensive, each with over 20 offences related to theft, housebreaking, and drug-related activities. To add insult to injury, two of them were already on the police wanted list, and all tested positive for methamphetamine. A truly problematic group that needed to be stopped!
During the operation, police successfully seized a significant haul:
- Six motorcycles (suspected to be stolen or used in committing crimes)
- One van
- Specialised equipment used for vehicle theft
Legal Ramifications and Ongoing Hunt
The case is being thoroughly investigated under several serious sections of the law:
- Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft
- Section 457 for housebreaking
- Section 392 for robbery
- Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse
The suspects are currently remanded as investigations continue. Police are also actively tracking down other individuals believed to be connected to the 'Harraz Gang' network, especially those who act as buyers for the stolen parts. Let's hope all those involved face the full force of the law!
