QuickCheck: Did Melaka CM brave the rain on a motorcycle to spot-check flood-prone areas?

Malacca CM Rides Out the Rain on a Kapcai: Fact or Fiction?

Eh, you know how it is. When banjir hits, politicians show face, bagi some nasi bungkus, lepas tu balik. But lately, ada video going around of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh riding a motorcycle in the heavy rain. Check out the flood hotspots, he said.

Sounds fishy, right? In this age of AI deepfakes and doctored videos, we had to investigate if this stunt was legit.

So, what's the verdict?

It's true, geng!

The CMO (Chief Minister’s Office) confirmed it. That video of Ab Rauf in a raincoat, riding his bike through the rain in his Tanjung Bidara area? Real, they said. No tipu-tipu.

He even stopped by some gerai tepi jalan, talking to the local residents about their longkang and banjir problems.

Apparently, this is normal for him. One CMO officer said: β€œThe Chief Minister has been visiting his constituency on a motorcycle to get a closer look at the ground situation, especially in areas difficult to reach by car.”

As the local ADUN (assemblyman), Ab Rauf does spot checks to monitor drainage and chat with residents whenever the sky starts to open up.

While many praised his turun padang style, others were kepoh about the price of his bike. Some even joked he should try jalan kaki next time!

Netizen Reactions: True Malaysian Style

  • Praises for being hands-on. Many Malaysians admired the Chief Minister's effort to personally inspect the situation.
  • Debate on the bike's price. Of course, there were comments speculating on the cost of the kapcai.
  • Suggestions for next steps. Some jokers suggested he should consider walking around the constituency too.

Anyway, props to the CM for showing up. Whether it's political or sincere, at least someone's seeing what's going on, kan?
