KAJANG: Attention, two-wheel enthusiasts! Another Honda scooter has fallen victim to theft, this time snatched from a residential parking area in Bangi early on Monday morning. The incident has prompted a police probe, reminding all riders to double up on their security measures.

The theft, which took place at Residensi Adelia, Bangi, was reported to the district police control centre at 1:35 AM on February 24. Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that the stolen vehicle was indeed a Honda scooter.

CCTV Footage Points to Lone Suspect

Following the report, a forensic team was dispatched to the scene, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was meticulously reviewed as part of the initial investigation. According to ACP Naazron, the recording captured a lone male suspect, whose ethnicity remains unknown, carrying out the theft.

β€œBased on the recording, a man of unknown ethnicity is believed to have committed the theft. Efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect are ongoing,” stated ACP Naazron, assuring the public that the hunt for the thief is active.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code. This particular section deals with vehicle theft and carries a serious penalty, including a jail term of between one and seven years, plus a fine upon conviction. It’s a stark warning to those who eye other people’s rides.

Protect Your Ride: Extra Locks Are A Must!

In light of this incident and the recurring problem of motorcycle theft across Malaysia, ACP Naazron strongly urged the public, especially scooter and kapcai owners, to bolster their bike’s security. β€œMembers of the public are advised to install additional locking devices to minimise the risk of motorcycle theft,” he emphasized.

Don’t just rely on your factory-fitted steering lock! Thieves are getting smarter, and a simple lock is often not enough. Here are some crucial tips to keep your beloved machine safe:

  • Invest in a Quality Disc Lock: These compact devices are effective in immobilizing a wheel.
  • Use a Robust Chain Lock: Secure your scooter to an immovable object like a lamp post or a sturdy bike rack whenever possible.
  • Consider an Alarm System: Many aftermarket alarm systems can deter thieves with loud sirens and even notify you via your phone.
  • Park Smart: Always choose well-lit areas, preferably with active CCTV cameras or high pedestrian traffic.
  • Don’t Leave Keys Behind: Seems obvious, but sometimes in a rush, riders forget their keys in the ignition.
